Established in 1979, Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital is among India’s leading pediatric healthcare institutions, renowned for delivering world-class medical care at affordable costs. The hospital caters largely to underprivileged children and offers a full spectrum of services — from outpatient care to highly specialized procedures including pediatric cardiac, neurological and abdominal surgeries, dialysis, and ECMO support.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bala Ramachandran, Head of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, highlighted the critical importance of specialized transport for seriously ill children. “Children referred from distant locations often require intensive care even before they reach the hospital. Stabilizing them at the point of origin and continuing ICU-level care during transport significantly improves survival outcomes,” he said.

KKCTH routinely transports critically ill children from across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, including cities such as Bengaluru, Trichy, Madurai, Tirupathi, Nellore, and Vijayawada.

The newly donated ambulance has been purpose-built to function as a Mobile ICU, enabling uninterrupted critical care during long-distance transfers. It is equipped with advanced medical systems including a patient monitor, infusion pumps, a ventilator, and an ultrasound machine, along with two large oxygen cylinders to ensure continuous oxygen supply. The ambulance will be staffed by a dedicated team of doctors and nurses specially trained in pediatric critical care transport.

“This vehicle allows us to deliver the same level of care on the road that a child would receive inside our ICU,” Dr. Ramachandran noted. He expressed his gratitude to Mr. Siddharth Iyer, CEO & Managing Director of SI Investments & Broking Pvt. Ltd., and the Rotary Club of Madras for their generous support. Dr. Ramachandran added that the hospital treats over 10,000 inpatients annually, including nearly 1,400 children in the ICU, while adhering to a strictly ethical, non-profit approach. “Our mission is simple,” he said. “To ensure that every child receives high-quality medical care, regardless of their financial background.”
