Chennai, Aug 7, 2025 : Uber today announced the rollout of metro ticketing on the Chennai Metro through the Uber app, in partnership with Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL), and powered by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). Starting today, Uber users in Chennai can now plan their metro journeys, purchase QR-based tickets, and access real-time transit information - all within the Uber app. This functionality has been enabled through ONDC’s interoperable network, connecting Uber with public transport infrastructure. Riders in Chennai will be able to avail a 50% discount on metro tickets through the month of August. Additionally, to facilitate a connected journey, Uber is also offering 50% off up to Rs 20 across both Uber Auto and Uber Moto for rides originating or terminating at metro stations in Chennai. Passengers can now book their Chennai Metro tickets directly from the ONDC Network Chennai, 02 February, 2024: Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is thrilled to announce the launch of the most reliable public transport system Metro Rail on the Network, marking a significant expansion in the mobility domain through the inclusion of mass transit systems. This initiative begins with the Chennai Metro, setting a milestone as the first metro service in India to be available on the ONDC Network. Starting February 2nd, customers can effortlessly purchase single journey and return journey tickets for the Chennai Metro through these buyer apps on the ONDC Network — Rapido, Namma Yatri and redBus. Additionally, Google Maps and PhonePe will also soon be able to offer these services, further enhancing customer convenience and choice.
