Madras Medical Mission Pioneers Dual Chamber Leadless Pacemaker Implants: Advancing the Future of Cardiac Care
Chennai, November 04, 2025: In a landmark achievement for cardiac care, Madras Medical Mission (MMM) successfully performed its first implantation of a true dual chamber leadless pacemaker, marking a significant milestone in heart rhythm management and electrophysiology. This cutting-edge procedure offers a minimally invasive alternative to traditional pacemakers, reducing risks of infection, discomfort, and recovery time. The recipient, a 75-year-old man with complete heart block, had been experiencing dizziness and fatigue that limited his daily activities. Due to his high infection risk with conventional pacemakers, MMM’s electrophysiology team opted for the leadless pacemaker system as a safer, more advanced option. Unlike traditional pacemakers that rely on leads and a surgical pocket, this dual chamber system involves two miniature, self-contained pacemakers—one in the right atrium and another in the right ventricle—each roughly one-tenth the size of a conventional device.
