Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital Launches Multi-Disciplinary Cystic Fibrosis Clinic & Advanced Pediatric Interventional Pulmonology Services in Chennai
Chennai, July 16, 2026: Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital (KKCTH), Chennai, has taken a major step forward in pediatric respiratory healthcare with the launch of a dedicated Multi-Disciplinary Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Clinic and Advanced Pediatric Interventional Pulmonology Services. The new initiatives bring comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and long-term management for children with complex respiratory disorders under one roof, ensuring coordinated, specialist-led care.
The CF Clinic, only the second of its kind in Tamil Nadu, enables families to consult pediatric pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, physiotherapists, nutritionists, psychologists and medical social workers during a single visit, reducing delays and improving continuity of care. With nearly 150 children estimated to be born with Cystic Fibrosis every year in Tamil Nadu, early diagnosis and timely intervention are critical to preserving lung function, improving nutrition, reducing hospital admissions and enhancing quality of life.
KKCTH has also introduced Advanced Pediatric Interventional Pulmonology Services, becoming the first exclusive pediatric centre in Tamil Nadu to offer sophisticated minimally invasive airway and lung procedures. The hospital now provides Pediatric Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), Guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration (TBNA), tissue sampling for lymphoma, diagnosis of pulmonary fungal infections and real-time vascular mapping for safer procedures. In addition, the ERBE Cryo Platform enables advanced treatments including endobronchial cryotherapy, cryobiopsy of airway lesions and management of benign airway stenosis and granulation tissue.
Specialists highlighted that newer CFTR modulator therapies are transforming outcomes for eligible children by addressing the underlying molecular defect of Cystic Fibrosis, significantly improving lung function and quality of life.
The launch will be commemorated with a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on 19 July 2026, aimed at promoting awareness, early diagnosis and timely referrals among pediatricians and specialists across the region, further strengthening respiratory care for children in Tamil Nadu.
