Chennai, June 2, 2026: Sixteen-year-old mountaineer Nisha Sasikumar from Chennai has etched her name in the record books by becoming the youngest woman in the world to successfully summit Mount Everest through the South Col route from Nepal. Nisha achieved the feat at the age of 16 years and 80 days, reaching the world's highest peak on May 25, 2026. The young climber completed the ascent as part of an expedition organised by Elite Exped and is currently descending safely from the mountain. Throughout the challenging expedition, she was supported by experienced Sherpa guides Tenji Sherpa, Phura Dorji Sherpa and Phursang Sherpa. Born in Chennai in March 2010, Nisha's accomplishment is being hailed as a landmark moment for Indian mountaineering.
