Golden Memories Rekindled as St. Bede’s 1976 Batch Reunites After 50 Years

Chennai, Santhome | January 5, 2026: Standing tall along the Santhome coastline for over 118 years, St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School (St. Bede’s AIHS) today witnessed a rare and emotional milestone in its storied history.

Golden Memories Rekindled as St. Bede’s 1976 Batch Reunites After 50 Years

Exactly fifty years after passing out in 1976, former students of the 1976 batch have returned to their beloved school to celebrate their Golden Jubilee Reunion. Once young boys running through the corridors in school uniforms, they reunited today as accomplished “Old Boys,” now averaging over 65 years of age. Around 65 alumni have gathered to relive memories, friendships, and the spirit that shaped their lives.

Educated under the guidance of the Salesians of Don Bosco, members of the 1976 batch have gone on to distinguish themselves across diverse fields including education, business, medicine, sports, management, banking, science, arts, and cinema. Having studied in a school by the sea, their lives too have mirrored the waves—constantly moving forward, resilient, and enduring. Their journey, much like a silent melody, continues to resonate even today.

The celebrations were held at the school auditorium, presided over by the present Rector and Headmaster. Adding to the significance of the occasion, the Rector, Headmaster, and five teachers who guided the 1976 batch graced the stage, rekindling bonds that transcend time.

The welcome address was delivered by Mr. V. M. Muralidharan, an alumnus of the 1976 batch and long-serving Chairman of Ethiraj College. One of the most poignant moments of the event featured Mr. Francis Samuel, who served as the Physical Education teacher in 1976. Through a soulful harmonica performance, he recreated cherished memories and expresses the timeless bond between the school and its students through music.

Following lunch, the alumni proceeded to Esthell Village Resort near Mahabalipuram, where they continued the celebrations—renewing friendships after five decades. Having travelled from the USA, UK, Australia, St. Martin, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and other places, the group for a few precious hours, set aside age and responsibility to become students of 1976 once again.

This was not merely a reunion. It was a journey into memory. A Golden Jubilee that brought lost springs back to life.
