Chennai, Aug 7, 2025: Uber today announced the rollout of metro ticketing on the Chennai Metro through the Uber app, in partnership with Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL), and powered by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
Starting today, Uber users in Chennai can now plan their metro journeys, purchase QR-based tickets, and access real-time transit information - all within the Uber app. This functionality has been enabled through ONDC’s interoperable network, connecting Uber with public transport infrastructure. Riders in Chennai will be able to avail a 50% discount on metro tickets through the month of August. Additionally, to facilitate a connected journey, Uber is also offering 50% off up to Rs 20 across both Uber Auto and Uber Moto for rides originating or terminating at metro stations in Chennai. This offer is also valid for the month of August.

This integration is part of Uber’s expansion plans for Chennai across product categories, and underscores the company’s commitment to the city. Chennai is only the second city in India to get metro ticketing through the Uber app, after Delhi earlier this year.
Speaking at the launch, Manikandan Thangarathnam, Senior Director - Mobility and Platforms, Uber, said “Our partnership with CMRL marks a significant milestone in our journey to make urban mobility more seamless, accessible, and efficient. Chennai is a key focus market for Uber, and we’re doubling down on efforts to solve everyday commuting challenges for its residents. By integrating metro ticketing into the Uber app, we are simplifying multimodal travel and reinforcing our commitment to being a true one-stop solution for Chennai’s mobility needs. This collaboration reflects our belief in harnessing the power of public-private partnerships to build smarter, more connected cities.”
Shri MA Siddique, Managing Director, CMRL, said, “We are pleased to partner with Uber to enhance the last-mile connectivity experience for Chennai Metro passengers. This collaboration aligns with CMRL's vision of providing world-class, tech-enabled transport solutions that make commuting more convenient and accessible.
The payments for metro ticketing will be supported exclusively through UPI, reinforcing Uber’s commitment to accelerating digital payments adoption and financial inclusion. With the addition of Chennai Metro ticketing, Uber continues to strengthen its multimodal offering, following two-wheelers, autos, cars, and buses, making it easier for riders to plan and complete their entire journey seamlessly within a single app.
