Samsung Sees Sales of Large Screen QLED 8K, QLED and UHD TVsSoar This Cricket World Cup
- Indian cricket fans are upgrading to large screen TVs to watch their home team battle it out in the ongoing Cricket World Cup.
Chennai, India –
June 20, 2019: In the month of May, just ahead of
the World Cup, Samsung India saw sales of 55 inch and above TVs, which include
the Company’s QLED TV line up and Ultra High Definition Tv line up, grow over
110% over last year. Samsung has also seen the sale of ultra-premium 75 inch
and above TVs grow five times in the same period, indicating consumer
preference for larger screen TVs to enjoy the World Cup.
Samsung has been the market leader in
TVs for the last 13 years in India. In the premium TV segment (55 inch and
above) too it had a market share of 47% at the end of March 2019, which it
plans to take up to 55% by this Diwali riding on the rising sales of large
screen TVs. With the recent launch of Samsung QLED 8K TVs, Samsung is eying 70%
market share in ultra-premium TVs (75 inch and above) from its current market
share of 53%.
Consumers today aspire to upsize their
lifestyles. The 55 inch and above segment is estimated to be 20% of the overall
TV market in 2019 as compared to just 8% in 2017. In January-March 2019
quarter, the 55 inch and above segment grew by 55% as compared to the same
period last year. In this period, Samsung saw a growth of 70% in 55 inch and
above TVs.
The cricket fever this year has led to
Indians migrating to larger screens not just in metro cities but in smaller
towns as well. Samsung has seen customers in smaller towns such as Vijayawada,
Vishakhapatnam, Hubli, Jodhpur, Agra, Jabalpur, Nagpur, Raipur, Ludhiana,
Dehradun, Jalandhar, Cochin, Coimbatore, Baroda, Ranchi, Tirupati, Asansol,
Madurai and Kolhapur, among others upsizing to larger screen TVs, that is
evident in the rising demand for Samsung’s QLED TVs in these cities.

luxurious screens, Samsung recently introduced a comprehensive line-up offering
sixteen models in a range of sizes to suit the needs of every home and every
lifestyle. The 2019 QLED 8K lineup is available in four sizes ranging from 65
