"BEYOND 8" - Voyaging beyond High School; Paving the paths for the future

Chennai, June 25, 2022: Rumi said - As you start to walk on the way, the way appears - This sums up the story of how it all Began in Beyond 8 - 8 maverick learners and their families chose to opt out of an old system and started to walk a new path - not knowing what will be - and yet - in their conscious decision - they paved the way for every single learner who was seeking a different outcome in their learning journey! After all, how can you be unique if you were to choose options that are the same as everyone?

University delegates, learners, volunteers, parents, teachers and school leaders participated in this unique event - Voyaging with Beyond 8! By being here, each one was showing support for the growing and urgent need for a learner determined, compassionately empathetic, transformative, focused yet flexible hybrid and liberal learning ecosystem. The Educational program in Beyond 8 focuses on 3 key principles: Heutagogical framework, Liberal educational values and future ready design elements in instruction as well as operations.

Heutagogy, also known as self-determined learning, is a student-centered instructional strategy that emphasizes the development of autonomy, capacity, and capability. With the learner’s voice and an empathetic culture at the core of our programs, we provide deliberately designed transformative experiences so that our learners are enabled to pursue the best collegiate pathways for liberal education in India and abroad.

While learners pursue academic excellence in the subjects of their choice, they also enjoy the freedom to pursue their passions in varied fields such as music, sport and art.   To enable this, we offer strong mentoring programs and custom pathways for Liberal Education, depending on learners' interests. Learners can pick any combination of subjects from the sciences, humanities, the arts, or social sciences and create their custom pathway to college education.

Mr.Naveen Mahesh, Co-Founder, Beyond 8 said, we operate in a distributed and decentralized model and provide a hybrid learning environment with asynchronous learning as a key component of the instructional design. Industry Expert connects, modular approach to skill building and personalised college prep offers learners the opportunity to design their future in the present.

A huge shout out to our co-founding member and head of Pathways team Nandini Ramesh and her super team for designing and curating this wonderful opportunity for all highschoolers! A huge thank you to all the delegates who have come down here and a special thanks to our dearest volunteers - our own learners of Beyond 8 and the learners and alumni from HLC - India’s first ashoka changemaker school and a social incubation centre.
