  • In association with Do-It-Yourself Academy (DIYA), it is for the very first time that students of an arts & science college have developed a robot.

23rd September 2019, Chennai: SARA, a life-sized humanoid robot conceptualised and developed by the students of Shri Shankarlal Sundarbhai Shasun Jain College for Women was unveiled in the college by Mr. Gopinath Chandran and Mr. Erode Mahesh in the presence of Mr. Aseem Tamboli, Director, Deskera and Mr. L. SARA, the robot is six feet tall weighing 29.2 kgs and is driven by AI technology. It is supported with an inbuilt sensor and face recognition technology that identifies and welcomes guests with a warm handshake. Capable of answering queries about the college, SARA will help visitors understand the student-centric uniqueness present in the college. The robot, having a 7-inch tablet as an interface, was entirely designed by the students of Shasun Jain College for Women and was completed within 6 months.

Most robots today are designed to do repetitive actions or jobs which are considered too harmful for humans and are mostly used in industrial spaces for tasks such as building vehicles. With the evolution of robot technology and robots being the need of the hour, SARA is a great innovation in the field of human interfacing robotics.

The team of students involved in the making of the robot included S. Nivedeinee, R. Madhumitha, A. Khushi, S. Vithika, R. Hemapriya and M. Bhavana Kanooga under the guidance of teachers from the Digital Transformation Team of the college.
