Apollo Cancer Centres launches its first edition of ‘Winners on Wheels’ Cyclothon for awareness on Sarcoma cancer
- Over 100 people including children from JS Global School, Sholinganallur and Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Mylapore participate in the event to create awareness about Sarcoma Cancer and life beyond cancer treatment.
Chennai, 30th July 2022: This Sarcoma Awareness Month, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, First & only proton beam therapy centre in South Asia & Middle east, hosted ‘Winners on Wheels’ cyclothon to spread awareness about Sarcoma cancer. This initiative was aimed to create awareness and encourage positivity about cancer treatment for a better quality of life. To shed light on how a well-treated cancer patient can lead a successful life, people volunteered to participate in the cyclothon as Apollo’s brand ambassador. Regional Cyclothons across 5 cities – Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi are also being conducted to create awareness about Sarcoma Cancer & its symptoms.

The event was flagged off by Ms. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals. The clinicians, doctors, medical staff and the leaders of Apollo, Mr. Harshad Reddy, Director-Operations- Group Oncology & International, Apollo Cancer Centres, Mr. Harish Trivedi, Chief Executive Officer, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, Dr Rakesh Jalali, Medical Director, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre along with Ms. R V Ramya Bharthi, IPS, Joint Commissioner- Chennai North Zone and Ms. Aishwarya Rajinikanth, Filmmaker & Entrepreneur were present for the event. Local cyclist associations and children from schools - JS Global School, Sholinganallur and Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Mylapore also took part in this activity.
Sarcoma is one of the cancers which affects the soft tissues or bone. Bone Sarcomas constitute as the third most common cause of mortality in adolescents. In addition to raising awareness around Sarcoma cancer, the cyclothon also promoted the need for a healthy lifestyle to ensure a future with less cancer risk. The gathering discussed the primary topic of reasoning on the forgotten disease.
On the occasion, Ms Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals said, “In the era of a sedentary lifestyle, old and young, living on the verge of increasing all causes of mortality, double the risk of cardiovascular diseases and increase the risks of cancers. One such, forgotten disease is Sarcoma cancer, a type of cancer that begins in the bone or in the soft tissues of the body, including cartilage or other connective or supportive tissue, which has seen a rise worldwide. This July—Sarcoma Awareness Month—we hope to raise awareness on the same and encourage adoption of a healthy lifestyle in day-to-day life.
