Gleneagles HealthCity Chennai Organises Fibro Scan Liver Screening Camp for Police Personnel

Chennai, June 15th, 2024: Gleneagles HealthCity Chennai, a leading multi-speciality quaternary healthcare centre organised Fibro Scan liver screening for police personnel under Tambaram Commissionerate on June 15th, 2024.  C Maheshwari, IGP, Additional Commissioner of Police, Hqrs & Traffic, Tambaram City Police inaugurated the camp in the presence of Dr. Nagesh K Rao, CEO, & Dr Joy Vargheese, Director of Hepatology & Transplant, Gleneagles HealthCity Chennai. This initiative, in observance of June month as Global Fatty Liver Month. 
“The camp, aimed at promoting liver health and early detection of liver diseases, provided police personnel with access to advanced liver screening using the FibroScan technology. This non-invasive procedure is crucial for identifying conditions like liver fibrosis and fatty liver disease, which, if detected early, can be managed effectively to prevent serious complications”, said Dr Joy Vargheese, Director of Hepatology & Transplant, Gleneagles HealthCity Chennai.

Around 300 police personnels attend the camp and had undergone the FibroScan test. Alongside the screenings, participants were provided with educational materials on maintaining liver health, the impact of lifestyle choices, and the importance of regular health check-ups. 

C Maheshwari, IGP, Additional Commissioner of Police, Hqrs & Traffic, Tambaram City Police, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting, “The health and well-being of our officers is paramount. We appreciate the efforts of Gleneagles HealthCity Chennai in organizing this camp, which underscores their commitment to community service and the health of those who protect and serve.”

“Police personnel often endure high levels of stress and irregular working hours, which can adversely affect their liver health. Our goal with this camp was to provide them with a quick, painless, and accurate assessment of their liver condition, helping them stay healthy and fit for their demanding roles, “Said Dr Nageshwar K Rao, CEO, Gleneagles HealthCity Chennai. Throughout the month of June, we conduct fibroscan liver screenings for numerous neighbourhood associations and institutions in our community”, added Dr Nageshwar K Rao

Chennai, February 09, 2026: Building on the global momentum around World Cancer Day, Apollo Cancer Centre, Chennai and Apollo Proton Cancer Centre have launched the ‘ZERO TO HERO’ campaign to raise awareness about Stage Zero cancer detection and its critical role in improving survival and recovery outcomes. Cancer incidence in India continues to rise sharply, with over 15 lakh new cases reported in 2024, as per ICMR–NCRP data presented in Parliament. With one in nine Indians now facing a lifetime risk of cancer, the disease has emerged as a major public health challenge.
