Shobana Kamineni launches Aditya Balasubramanian's book Toward a Free Economy'


Chennai, December 13, 2023:  'Toward a Free Economy: Swatantra and Opposition Politics in Democratic India' book written by Aditya Balasubramanian, Senior Lecturer in Economic History at Australian National University, published by Princeton University Press was today launched in the presence of August gathering.

The event commenced with an introduction to the book and its author, led by Ireena Vittal. Following this, Aditya Balasubramanian delved into his book, focusing on the Swatantra party and its economic ideas. The subsequent discussion, featuring Ireena Vittal and Professor A.R. Venkatachalapathy, drew parallels from history and explore their relevance to our current economic situation. This conversation was moderated by Professor Srinath Raghavan.

Ireena Vittal, a business strategist and former McKinsey & Co. Partner, advises global firms on strategic innovation, digital transformation and sustainable growth. She has also co-authored books on agriculture, urbanization and consumer behaviour.

A.R. Venkatachalapathy, an esteemed historian and prolific writer, recognized for his contributions to Tamil history. Currently a professor at the Madras Institute of Development Studies provided valuable insights into the socio-cultural aspects of Tamil society.

Srinath Raghavan, a respected historian and international relations professor at Ashoka University, is renowned for his contributions to military history. Formerly with the Centre for Policy Research, his expertise spans international relations.
