Aug 19, 2023: Chennai: Master Deepen Prakash Sakhrani, a testament to resilience and determination, has emerged victorious at the International Special Olympics World Games held in June 2023 in Berlin. Despite facing substantial challenges from an early age, Deepen's journey of overcoming obstacles has culminated in a spectacular achievement, bringing honour not only to himself but also to his parents and his country.

Deepen was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital in Chennai in December 2004 at age of just two months because of fits. Investigations revealed a significant intracranial haemorrhage (bleeding into his head) due to blood clotting failure. He was treated by a team of experts led by Dr. Bala Ramachandran. Despite enduring a complex recovery process that required a week of mechanical ventilation and a left-sided stroke, Deepen fought on and gradually improved.

With steadfast support from his parents, Prakash and Nikitha, who maintained a positive outlook and provided unwavering encouragement, Deepen's journey of resilience and progress commenced. Overcoming developmental challenges one step at a time, he showed remarkable courage and determination that inspired those around him. Alongside his educational commitments, Deepen developed a profound passion for in-line roller skating — a pursuit that ignited his spirit and ultimately became his driving force.

Now, at the age of 19, Deepen Sakhrani represented India in June 2023 on the international stage at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin. His dedication and hard work bore fruit as he clinched Gold medals in the 500 meters, 1000 meters, and 200 meters x 2 relay events, shining as a true embodiment of perseverance and triumph. His achievements not only celebrate his personal success but also stand as a source of pride for his parents and the entire nation.
