MGM Cancer Institute, Chennai conducts Breast Cancer Awareness Walkathon

Chennai, 31 October 2022: MGM Cancer Institute celebrated Pink October with a ‘WALKATHON’ in Chennai on Sunday, October 30, 2022. The walkathon was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Thiru. VijayKumar from MGM Cancer Institute, Chennai. Thiru Mohan MLA and Ms. Revathi, Film Actress, Director and a Social Worker welcomed the walkers and spoke about the breast cancer awareness.

The walkathon began at 6:00 AM from MGM Cancer Institute at Nelson Manickam Road and covered till Anna Nagar Tower Park. The walkathon had 500 participating with complete enthusiasm. Dr. Urjitha Rajagopalan, Director, MGM Healthcare, Chennai along with her team of doctors led the Walkathon. The event featured Zumba classes handled by experts and had Breast Cancer Awareness talks by the Doctors. Students from D.G. Vaishnav College and Krishnaswamy College participated in the walkathon. 
#PinkOctober is celebrated every year with an objective of spreading awareness about breast cancer.  Having the theme as “Walk away from Breast Cancer” and “Let’s Walk together to keep breast cancer away”, this year’s purpose of the Walkathon is to extend support in educating and preventing Breast Cancer. 
On speaking at the Walkathon, Dr. M.A.Raja, Senior Consultant Medical Oncology, Director - Oncology Services, Chairman, Medical Advisory Board said, “MGM always encourages and conducts such awareness drives and extend our support for the cancer afflicted. It is time that people understood the impact that this disease could have on the society. The purpose is to create awareness and educate more women in understanding the nature of the disease, to be aware and to be prepared.”
