Rotary Club of Madras dedicates state of the Art School at Perumbakkam, Chennai

Chennai, December 26, 2019: The Rotary Club of Madras, the third oldest club in India, today dedicated a Higher Secondary School built from the scratch to the community which was affected by the floods in 2015. Built on 1.2 acres of land, it has 14 Class Rooms and 6 Labs constructed over 29,800 sq.ft and can accommodate 660 Students.
Dedicating this Rs 7 Crore project Rotary International President Nominee Rtn. Shekhar Mehta, in the presence of Mr. S. Rajendran, Deputy Director, School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, said it was outstanding work by the Rotary Club of Madras and educating the children with the most modern facilities was praise worthy. The Tata Foundation was the major donor with 4 Crores, Anuja Foundation USA and Rotarians from the Club contributed the balance.

Dr. Vijaya Bharathi Rangarajan, President of the Club explained that what started as a rescue mission slowly built up to providing solid infrastructure in the form of the School for over 500 tenements who live in the Perumbakkam area. Rtn. Ashok Thakkar, Chairman, Perumbakkam School Project Committee, Rtn. R . Ravi Shankar, Director, Community Service, Rtn. Anil Srinivasan and Rtn. Mohan Raman gave information on how the project was conceived after the floods and how it slowly changed to becoming a State of the Art School, crediting the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Education Department in particular.
