NIT Trichy Alumni to set up Research Chairs with 5 Crore contribution

Chennai, December 12, 2019: NIT Trichy will soon have more PhD's come out from its portals, thanks to the generosity of its past students , who have together, taken on the responsibility to ensure that NIT Trichy produces more world class research scholars in different engineering verticals from their college.

Addressing the media, an alumni team of successful entrepreneurs like N. Kamakodi, CEO & Managing Director, City Union Bank Ltd, S. Krishna Kumar, CIO, Sundaram Mutual Equity Fund, K. Mahalingam, Director, TSM Group of Companies announced that they Alumni would contribute Rs.5 crore in setting up 10 Research Chairs which will sponsor Ph.D students to pursue research that are aligned to the current industry challenges and future requirements.

This is the commitment made by all the alumni of NIT Trichy. This would be the first tranche of contribution and depending on success; they would consider giving more to the alma mater in the future.

On this occasion a logo of GAM 2020 was unveiled. GAM 2020 stands for NIT, Trichy's Global Alumni Meet which is to be held in Chennai on 4th January 2020. Over 1,200 past students of the college will assemble here in Chennai for a Global get together, which will witness many past students rubbing shoulders with different batches and different age groups.

GAM 2020 will be inaugurated by Dr. Mini Thomas, Director, NIT Trichy said Dr. N. Kamakodi from the batch of 1995.

M. Krishna Sai, President, RECAL said, RECAL is the acronym for REC/NITT Alumni Association. He added that there are active Chapters in Trichy, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, UAE, Singapore and USA (East &West Coast).

Distinguished Alumni of NIT Trichy are heading several leading Corporate Houses like TCS, Tata Sons, Tata Steel, Bloom Energy (USA) etc. They also excel at Universities & Research Institutions across the globe. Sai pointed out some of the initiatives taken such as Alumni Visiting Faculty Program, Alumni Designing Industry-specific Courses for students, Alumni Mentorship Program and Internship for students in institutions/companies headed or founded by an alumnus.

K. Mahalingam announced that the one day reunion program on 4th January 2020 will be held at MGM Resort on ECR. S. Krishna Kumar of Sundram Mutual Equity Fund added that the keynote address during the inaugural session of GAM 2020 will be delivered by Padma Bhushan Pullela Gopichand, the Chief National Coach for the Indian Badminton team.

Professor S Raman, Dean, Alumni Relations, made a presentation that highlighted the fact about NIT Trichy being the top ranking NIT in our country and is ranked among the top 10 Engineering Institutions of India.

An interesting panel discussion will also be held on the theme of "Tech Disruption & Future of Work'". There is also a panel discussion on Women & Technology, apart from a master class on Finance & Investment, Entrepreneurs My Story & Entrepreneur Workshop by Arpit Agarwal of Blume Ventures, said Raman.
