  • ‘Future Is Here’, a Showcase of Futuristic Technology exhibits for the first time at Phoenix Marketcity and Palladium!
28th November 2019 Chennai: Phoenix MarketCity unveils a series of unique and thought-provoking exhibition that connects art and technology in the millennial age, giving patrons an experience like never before. The art exhibition ‘Future is Here,’ curated by Dr. ArshiyaLokhandwala, is aimed at informing audience about the impact of technology along with the perils and entrapments it presents.

The art exhibition, The Future is Here, has been a year-long project for Dr. Arshiya Lokhandwala. The project, commissioned by the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation, engages 9 millennial artists to articulate their relationship with technology. These millennial artists responded to the open-call on social media, following which a democratic selection process based on their proposal were facilitated. As Chennai is a technological hub, it is only appropriate that Phoenix MarketCity presents this experiential exhibition to its audience. Patrons will get to interact and respond to various installations which will be exhibited between the 28thof November 2019 and the 22ndof January, 2020.

The Future is Here: Art and Technology in a Millennial Age is the first exhibition of its kind to examine the millennial experience of nine Indian millennial artists who have witnessed technology since their childhood with cable TV, computers, the Internet and cell phones. These artists have technology wired into their DNA as they were being raised with the proliferation of smartphones, voice-recognition AI systems like Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri, Bit-coin, Nintendo, Tinder, Net-flicks, and Amazon any task being only a click away. The installations are designed for the youth who were raised using technology and who feel the need to stay connected to the internet 24*7.

Each project while addressing the use of technology also reveals the abusive potential of technology with its entrapments that include the isolation felt living by individuals in a digital world, amidst online avatars and in a selfies culture, with a need to document every moment, while living in a constant state of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). Most of the projects are interactive and require engagement as they use virtual and augmented reality, gaming, and immersive technologies. The exhibition, The Future is Here seeks to present an encounter with digital technology, as the future is already visible and we need to heed it with serious consideration. The show will be an initiative to safeguard ourselves against the possible perils of technology. It is aimed at educating people to use it as a productive tool to enrich our personal lives, workplace and protect the world from the inevitable future.

Commenting on the occasion Ms. Pooja Patti, Center Director, Phoenix MarketCityChennai said: “Understanding the millennial outlook, we are glad that we could give patrons an opportunity to connect them back to themselves without giving up technology. This is the first of its kind exhibit in Chennai and we hope to give patrons and altogether different perspective on the boon and bane of technology in our life, today, so that everyone may adopt a balanced approach. Futuristic Art and Technology is deeply connected with Phoenix MarketCity’s close association with Art, Culture and its impact on us."
