A prayer song by Ms. Srilekha Parthasarathy marked the beginning of the celebration, followed by which Dr. K. M. Cherian – C.E.O & Founder, Frontier Lifeline Hospital, delivered the welcome address and stressed on the importance of Organ Donation. Another highlight of the day was the Vidyarambam of Shivani, daughter of Bhavani Shankar, one of the recipient of double heart transplant in one night, which was initiated by Her Excellency Ms. Susan Grace.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. K. M.Cherian, C.E.O & Chairman, Frontier Lifeline Hospital said,“India has lacked in numbers, being one among the lowest rates of organ donation in the world at 0.5 donor per million population, which is far less compared to over 35 per million Croatia, 30 per million Spain and 28 per million USA. Organ donation has been in disrepute due to few incidences of commercialization. Therefore, as you all know this donation is tax free but, it saves lives. Today the time has come for us to donate organs and encourage people to be a part of organ donation to save as many lives as possible. As I always say, science is life and life is science.

“Science demands progression and unfortunately in this country, neither government nor scientific community, has understood the importance of growing our own solid organs. We, in our scientific research labs, have initiated the phase of growing solid organs such as, kidneys, liver, heart and pancreas using biological scaffold, such as shark fin. This is a typical example of WASTE TO WEALTH. I look forward to the help from the government, scientific community and all others involved in it. At present, above all we need your support for popularizing and creating awareness on the importance of organ donation.”Dr. K. M. Cherian further added.
