  • Apollo Hospitals Chennai organized FEBICON an international conference on female bladder Dysfunction and Incontinence in Chennai on 26th August 2019.  
Chennai, August 27, 2019: Leading National and International Urologist, Gynecologist, Urogynaecologists, Pelvic floor Physiotherapists and other specialists participated and discussed the comprehensive approach to bladder and continence care.

The conference was organized under the leadership of Dr.Meera Ragavan, Consultant Obstetrician, Urogynecologist and Robotic Surgeon Apollo Hospitals, Chennai and world's leading experts in the field of robotic surgery andpelvic reconstructive surgery Prof. Mauro Cervigni and Prof. Jean Jacques Wyndaele were the lead speakers at the conference.

Urinary incontinence is an underdiagnosed and underreported problem that increases with age—affecting 50-84% of the elderly. Urinary incontinence affects millions of women in India, affecting their daily quality of life. Modern medicine has brought hope for those struggling with an irregular urge or release of urine. This conference discussed the new treatment options available to treat urinary incontinence. Types of urinary incontinence include.

  • Stress incontinence. Urine leaks when one exerts pressure on the bladder by coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising or lifting something heavy.
  • Urge incontinence. Having a sudden, intense urge to urinate followed by an involuntary loss of urine. Frequent urination(including throughout the night). Urge incontinence may be caused by a minor condition, such as infection, or a more-severe condition such as a neurologic disorder or diabetes.
  • Overflow incontinence. Experiencing frequent or constant dribbling of urine due to a bladder that doesn't empty completely.
  • Functional incontinence. A physical or mental impairment keeps one from making it to the toilet in time.
  • Mixed incontinence. You experience more than one type of urinary incontinence.
