The flag-off ceremony was led by Udhayanidhi Stalin, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, in the presence of S. S. Sivasankar, Hon’ble Minister for Transport. The initiative reinforces the state’s commitment to promoting zero-emission mobility and disabled-friendly public transport systems in alignment with national sustainability goals.

Manufactured at SWITCH’s advanced facility in Tamil Nadu, the EiV12 Low Floor bus reflects the company’s “Make in India for the World” vision, combining global technology with Indian manufacturing excellence. Designed for accessibility and safety, the ultra-low floor bus features kneeling and tilting mechanisms for easy boarding, a wheelchair ramp, panoramic glass interiors, and a Fire Detection and Suppression System.

Equipped with SWITCH iON technology, the buses monitor over 140 parameters in real time with more than 80 alerts to ensure optimal performance. Dual-gun fast charging, rear-mounted charger ports, silent operation, and enhanced stability through floor-mounted batteries further strengthen operational efficiency and passenger comfort.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ganesh Mani, Chief Executive Officer of SWITCH Mobility, said the deployment marks a significant milestone in scaling Tamil Nadu’s electric public transport ecosystem and delivering reliable, high-performance zero-emission mobility solutions.

With 525 buses already deployed with the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), the latest addition supports the state government’s ambitious electric mobility roadmap. The expansion is expected to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions, improve air quality, and offer safer, more comfortable daily commutes for Chennai’s millions of bus passengers.
