The initiative commits ₹2.8 crore towards engineering education, supporting children of construction workers and steel dealership employees across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Prof. Kamakoti emphasised the importance of strong fundamentals in engineering, comparing them to a building’s foundation. Mr. N. Ravi praised the programme as a meaningful commitment to society.

Founder Mr. Rajendran Sabanayagam said the initiative, launched in 2023, now supports students across all four years of engineering education, helping families meet living expenses beyond tuition fees. The scholarship offers up to ₹1 lakh annually, along with free laptops, for eligible students pursuing degree or diploma courses.

Selection requires a minimum of 70% in Plus Two and a combined parental income of up to ₹6 lakh per year, with awardees chosen through a lucky draw among eligible applicants. Scholarships continue throughout the course, subject to academic performance, discipline and attendance.

President Ashwin Sabanayagam described construction workers as part of Sumangala’s extended family, reaffirming the company’s commitment to strengthening both structures and the people behind them.

The initiative reflects Sumangala Steel’s effort to turn trust built over four decades into opportunities for the next generation of engineers.
