HelpAge India honours Older Persons on International Day Of Older Persons


Chennai, October 1st, 2024: The United Nations has declared 1st October as the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP). To commemorate this day, HelpAge India organized a daylong event on 1st October 2024 (Tuesday) at the Kuchalambal Kalyana Mahal, Chetpet, Chennai from 10.00 am to 03.00 pm.
The event started with the Inaugural program at 10.00 am. Hon'ble Mr.Justice S.Rajeswaran (Former Judge - Madras High court) was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the celebrations. He also felicitated the Senior Citizens Associations. Mr. Udaya Shankar (National Lead - Nasscom - Govt. Realtions & Skills initiatives and Co-founder & Trustee Maatram Foundation) was the Guest of Honor and Honour Elders Helpline Volunteers. Dr.T.C.Perumal (Secretary- Maharishi Vidya Mandir Group of Schools) was the Special Guest and greeted the Nonagenarian.

At 10.45am presentation of Disability Aids to needy older persons was done by members of Thatikonda Vatsala Ramachandra (TVR) Foundation. This was followed by various competitions for elder's viz., Group Dance, Fancy Dress, Grandpa King and Grannie Queen etc. Eminent personalities from diverse background were the judges for these events. Prizes were given to the winners of the competitions.

The Valedictory Programme took place from 02.15 pm to 03.00 pm at the same venue. Lion. A.T Ravichandran PMJF, District Governor, Lions International - District 324J (2024-2025) Chennai was the Chief Guest and crown Grandpa King & Grannie Queen 2024, Mr.C.Rajendra (Secretary- TVR Foundation) was the Guest of Honour and honored Sponsors, Competition winners & Old Age Homes and Honourable Dr.Justice S. Vimala, Former judge, High court of Madras and Former Member, State Law Commission.
