Rotary International District 3233 : 200+ Pink Auto Project towards Upliftment of deserving women

Chennai, June 29, 2024: Providing income to Women creates 6 times more impact in the community than to men. Rotary Clubs of Chennai have many projects done in the area of Women Empowerment. Out of which the Most successful one was the Pink Auto Project which had provided livelihood to women in a dignified way.
Past District Governor Rtn Chandramohan who conceived the project and started it’s implementation in the mid of 2020 when Covid was on the rage. Over the past 3 years 101 Pink Auto Rickshaws were provided and over 200 + women were trained in driving of Auto rickshaws.

How the Beneficiaries are chosen :
200+ Women and especially Single Parent women from economically challenged background were selected for training. Of this 100 were selected based on the various fair and transparent eligibility criteria made known to the trainees.
50% of the cost of the Autorickshaw was borne by Rotarians, Friends of Rotary and CSR Contributions. To ensure sustainability of regular income and stewardship of the Auto rickshaw continuously used for the said purpose, balance 50% was paid through Bank and Private Vehicle Loan which will be repaid with nominal interest within 3 years.
These 100 families are thankful to Rotary Clubs of Chennai and are now proud owners of a vehicle which brings in continuous daily income to their households.
During the installation Function, these 70 + Pink Auto Rickshaws along with the beneficiaries that are currently used were displayed. Similarly, within the next 12 months, It is proposed to train 200 more women with 100 new Auto Rickshaws are being donated the Rotary Clubs of the new District 3233.
1000 plus smart Boards are being planned to provide to deserving schools.

First of its kind , We have also made all the basic arrangement to take 1500 differently abled, Down syndrome students, Orphanage people along with our voluntaries to Thirumalai to worship the Lord Thirupathi Balaji on 5th Aug 2024 . We have booked one charted complete exclusive train for this cause. No other passenger were allowed to travel in this train.
