“ALERT BEING AWARDS 2020” PRESENTED TO GOOD SAMARITANS

Chennai, January 29th, 2021: The Fourth Edition of "ALERT Being" Awards 2020 hosted at Chennai by ALERT, a voluntary non-profit organisation working to ensure ‘Right to life’ a reality in India. ALERT Being Award is an honour to Good Samaritans and celebrating humanity by awarding real-life heroes who have helped save or preserve life from different walks of life across the following categories – individuals, organizations, and people going beyond the call of duty. The awards were given away by the Distinguished Guests of Honour, Dr. J Radhakrishnan, IAS, Health Secretary, Gov. of Tamil Nadu, and Mr. Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai.

ALERT Being Awards was presented to 14 real-life heroes who have saved or preserved lives during 2020. Dr A.R. Rahman, The Mozart of Madras presented the “Alert Being ICON Award” as an Individual and the ALERT Being Icon award for the organization was presented to the Biocon Foundation found by Ms. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw. This year, a special category the ‘Alert Being Covid warriors’ was added to appreciate warriors who put their best during the sudden onset of a pandemic, which none of us knew how to handle, these brave hearts tore through the inevitable to assist those embroiled in a calamitous event. A total of 30 COVID Warriors were honoured with Alert Being Covid Frontline Warrior for their contribution during pandemic.

The audience was left inspired by the moving stories of individual awardees such as Auto Chandran, Harikrishnan, Leo Akash Raj amongst others and awardees in the organization category to SaveLife Foundation, Bhoomika Trust, Love Heals Cancer. Inspiring doctors like Dr. Renuka Ramakrishnan and Dr. Gopi Nallaiyan have conferred the award in the ‘Going Beyond Call of Duty” category. 

Mr. Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai presenting ALERT BEING AWARD 2020 to an Real Life Hero Auto Chandran from Coimbatore at an award ceremony organised by ALERT today in Chennai.

In his video speech, Dr A.R. Rahman, The Mozart of Madras & Recipient of ALERT Being Icon award 2020, said, “I accept the award with thanks. The world needs a lot of healing. ALERT has been doing a brilliant job in empowering a common man to save lives and I look forward to being part of ALERT’s noble mission to save lives.”.

Speaking at ALERT Being Awards 2020,  Mr. V.M.Muralidharan, Chairman, ALERT said, “Without the leaders and the foot soldiers of the public departments for health and safety, we wouldn’t have been able to keep the impact of the pandemic to the minimum. We are grateful for their yeoman service.”

Speaking about the awardees, Ms. Kala Balasundaram, Founder Trustee said, “Like, in previous editions, this year’s awardees to leave us spellbound by their service to the society. ALERT is all about saving lives and these real-life heroes re-instill our faith in humanity. 15 years since inception, we come across many such heroes who are the ones that the youth today should look up to.”

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Rajesh R Trivedi, Managing Trustee, ALERT said, “ABA 2020 received 156 nominations from 15 states and 35 districts across India. After curations for accuracy and relevance, the members of the Jury selected the final awardees while acknowledging that every do-gooder is a winner. The next decade for ALERT will be the rapid empowerment of common people in emergency care so that more lives can be saved with a specific focus on rural and youth. The awardees inspire us to do more.

The distinguished members of the ABA 2020 jury were Ms. Veena Kumaravel, Founder, Natural Group of Salons; Thiru. Md. Shakeel Akhtar IPS, Director General of Police (DGP), Enforcement; Dr. J.S. Rajkumar, Chairman and Chief Surgeon, Lifeline Hospitals; Mr. Sujith Kumar, Founder, Maatram Foundation; and Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali, Heir Apparent & Dewan to the Prince of Arcot. The event had advisors in Dr. Renuka David, Managing Director, Radiant Medical Services, and Mr. C. K. Kumaravel, CEO and Co-Founder, Natural Group of Salons.
