Chennai, September 8, 2026: SIMS Hospital has achieved a new milestone in advanced hip reconstruction by performing Asia’s first new-generation, bone-sparing hip procedure on two international patients — a 44-year-old patient from Nebraska, USA, and a 58-year-old patient from London, UK. Unlike conventional hip procedures that may require extensive removal of bone, this innovative approach preserves a substantial portion of the patient’s healthy natural bone while providing stable and functional reconstruction.

The technique offers greater possibilities for future hip interventions and is particularly relevant for younger and active patients seeking long-term mobility and function. The procedures were carried out after detailed clinical assessments, advanced imaging, medical optimisation and meticulous surgical planning. Both patients have shown encouraging early functional recovery during the initial postoperative period.
Dr. Vijay K Bose, Joint Director & Senior Consultant, Orthopedics, who led the surgical team, said the procedure represents a significant shift in hip replacement and reconstructive surgery, with the focus moving beyond simply replacing a painful joint to preserving as much of the patient’s own bone as possible while respecting natural hip mechanics.
He emphasised that careful patient selection, bone quality, anatomy, diagnosis, activity requirements, overall health, advanced technology and precise surgical execution are critical to achieving successful outcomes.
