Kauvery Hospital & Chennai Airport Launch HeartSafe Initiative | 13 AEDs Installed to Strengthen Emergency Cardiac Care

Chennai, August, 5, 2026: Chennai has taken a major step towards creating a safer travel experience with the launch of the HeartSafe Initiative, a collaborative effort between Kauvery Hospital and Chennai International Airport.

Kauvery Hospital & Chennai Airport Launch HeartSafe Initiative | 13 AEDs Installed to Strengthen Emergency Cardiac Care

Inaugurated by Mr. Raja Kishore, Director, Chennai International Airport, and Dr. Manivannan S, Founder & Managing Director, Kauvery Group of Hospitals, the initiative marks the installation of 13 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across the airport, ensuring rapid life-saving intervention during sudden cardiac emergencies.

The project builds on Kauvery Hospital's round-the-clock emergency medical services at the airport, with four strategically located clinics staffed by 49 healthcare professionals, including emergency physicians, nurses, paramedics and support staff.

Together, these clinics handle 320–400 medical cases every month, including emergency consultations, onboard medical incidents and an average of 5–10 cardiac-related emergencies, highlighting the need for immediate cardiac response.

Supported by two fully equipped ambulances, the addition of AEDs further strengthens Chennai Airport's emergency preparedness by enabling early defibrillation during the critical first few minutes of a cardiac arrest. Since survival decreases by 7–10% with every passing minute without treatment, timely CPR and AED use can significantly improve outcomes.

Designed with simple voice-guided instructions, AEDs can be safely used by trained responders as well as members of the public. Through this initiative, Kauvery Hospital and Chennai International Airport are not only enhancing emergency medical infrastructure but also promoting greater awareness about recognising cardiac arrest, performing CPR and using AEDs effectively.

The HeartSafe Initiative reflects a shared commitment to protecting the millions of passengers, visitors and airport staff who pass through Chennai International Airport every year by ensuring that life-saving care is always within reach when every second counts.
