WOC India 2026- Chennai Sports Injury Conclave Brings Together 250 Orthopaedic Experts to Discuss Latest Advances in Athlete Care

Chennai, June 14: The India Chapter of the World Orthopaedic Concern (WOC), in association with Apollo Hospitals, successfully hosted the 2nd Annual Congress WOC India – Chennai Sports Injury Conclave 2026, bringing together more than 250 orthopaedic surgeons, sports medicine specialists, clinicians and healthcare professionals from across the country.

The one-day academic conclave focused on the latest developments in sports injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, while also highlighting emerging innovations aimed at improving athlete care, performance and recovery.

The event featured 35 renowned national and international faculty members who led scientific sessions, panel discussions and hands-on workshops covering key areas such as ACL and multiligament reconstruction, meniscal repair, distal femoral osteotomy, high tibial osteotomy and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. Participants received practical training in advanced surgical techniques and contemporary approaches to sports injury management.

Prominent World Orthopaedic Concern office-bearers present at the conclave included Dr Arindam Banerjee, President, WOC International and WOC India; Dr Chinmay Narh, Honorary Secretary, WOC India; and Dr Sidhant Goyal, Treasurer, WOC India. The programme was organised under the leadership of Dr Navaladi Shankar, Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Apollo Hospitals Chennai; Dr Ilankumaran Kaliamoorthy, Chief Executive Officer, Apollo Hospitals Chennai; and Dr S. Saseendar, Vice President, WOC India.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Arindam Banerjee said India has emerged as a global leader in orthopaedics and sports medicine, with Indian specialists increasingly training doctors and sharing expertise worldwide. He stressed the need to expand access to specialised sports injury care as participation in sports and physical activities continues to rise across the country.

Dr Navaladi Shankar highlighted the importance of knowledge-sharing platforms in advancing musculoskeletal health. He noted that rapid developments in sports medicine, surgical techniques and regenerative therapies require continuous learning and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure better patient outcomes.

The scientific programme covered a broad spectrum of topics, including sports injuries in routine orthopaedic practice, acute spine injuries, shoulder and elbow instability, ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, meniscus repair, arthroplasty and the management of elite athletes. Emerging fields such as orthobiologics, bone marrow concentrate therapies and regenerative medicine also received significant attention.

Dr S. Saseendar said the increasing popularity of sports and fitness activities has led to a rise in sports-related injuries, making continuous medical education crucial for young orthopaedic surgeons and postgraduate trainees. He noted that advances in imaging, bioabsorbable implants and regenerative medicine are transforming treatment outcomes and enabling better joint preservation and reconstruction.

Dr Samundeeswari Saseendar highlighted the growing incidence of shoulder injuries among athletes participating in cricket, badminton, volleyball and swimming. She emphasised that early diagnosis and advances in arthroscopic surgery, biologics and rehabilitation are helping athletes return to sports safely and effectively.

Dr Vishnu Senthil underscored the importance of injury prevention through proper training, conditioning, load management and recovery, adding that evidence-based treatment and early intervention can significantly improve return-to-play outcomes.

The conclave served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, skill development and collaboration, reinforcing Chennai’s position as a leading centre for orthopaedic education and sports medicine in India.
