Addressing reporters at a press meet in Chennai, Mr. Karan Dayanidhi Maran, Vice Chairman of Maran Group and Founder of KadhaiShorts, said the platform seeks to redefine digital entertainment by adapting the emotional engagement of traditional television serials into a mobile-first format suited to contemporary viewing habits.

The newly launched platform currently features a curated lineup of Tamil “Kutti Series” across six genres and has more than 100 original productions in various stages of development. The company also announced plans to expand into Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam and Bengali languages by the end of the current financial year.

To make content affordable and accessible, KadhaiShorts has introduced a pay-per-series model with prices starting from ₹20. The company believes the strategy will help attract viewers across different demographic segments while encouraging wider adoption of micro-drama content.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Karan Dayanidhi Maran said audience consumption patterns have undergone a significant transformation with the widespread adoption of smartphones. “Micro-drama is not a passing trend but the next major entertainment format built for mobile-only consumption. With KadhaiShorts, we are entering this space with the ambition to lead and create long-term cultural impact through original storytelling,” he said.

Industry observers note that micro-dramas have emerged globally as one of the fastest-growing entertainment categories, driven by increasing mobile consumption and demand for short-duration, high-engagement content. KadhaiShorts aims to capitalize on this trend by offering stories rooted in Tamil culture, language, emotions and everyday experiences while also reaching global Tamil audiences.

The platform plans to release 10 new vertical-format micro-dramas every month, featuring cinematically produced episodes designed for continuous mobile engagement.

Mr. Sabarish Venkat, Chief Executive Officer of KadhaiShorts, said India’s expanding smartphone ecosystem is accelerating the shift toward personalized entertainment. “Television created shared viewing habits among families, while mobile entertainment is creating individualized viewing experiences. KadhaiShorts is designed around this behavioural shift while preserving emotional storytelling and cultural authenticity,” he said.

As part of its broader ecosystem-building strategy, the company also unveiled KadhaiClub, a community platform aimed at aspiring writers, actors, directors, editors, cinematographers and content creators interested in vertical-format storytelling. According to the company, the initiative has already enrolled over 12,000 members and seeks to bridge the gap between conventional filmmaking practices and emerging mobile-first entertainment formats.

Looking ahead, KadhaiShorts has set ambitious growth targets, including onboarding more than 200 professionals and creating over 4,000 direct opportunities across creative and production functions by March 2027. The company estimates that its operations could also generate more than 10,000 indirect livelihood opportunities across allied sectors.

Besides revenue generation through micro-transactions, the platform is exploring storytelling-led brand integration models that seamlessly incorporate brands into narratives rather than relying on traditional advertising interruptions.

With mobile consumption continuing to reshape entertainment preferences, KadhaiShorts positions itself as a pioneering player seeking to establish a new category of short-form, culturally resonant digital storytelling in India.
