The two-day fair, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature direct participation from seven premier government-run Russian institutions. The significant increase in the number of MBBS seats reflects the rising demand among Indian students for medical education in Russia, which currently remains the only foreign destination fully compliant with the National Medical Commission’s latest norms for overseas medical education.
Students can avail spot admissions for MBBS and other programmes at the fair, which will also travel across Tamil Nadu. It will be held in Madurai on May 12 at Hotel Royal Court, Tiruchirappalli on May 13 at Hotel Femina, Salem on May 14 at GRT Hotel Zibe, and Coimbatore on May 15 at The Grand Regent Hotel. Entry to the fair is free.
Organisers said MBBS programmes in Russia offer a strong blend of theoretical learning and hands-on clinical training, preparing students for evolving healthcare demands. The courses are highly subsidised by the Russian government, making them among the most affordable globally, with fees starting from approximately ₹3.5 lakh per annum.
Eligibility criteria include qualifying the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and securing a minimum of 50% marks in core subjects, with a relaxation to 40% for SC/ST and OBC candidates. Notably, Tamil-medium students are also eligible, and there are no additional entrance requirements such as CET or IELTS.
In addition to medical programmes, the fair will showcase courses in emerging fields such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and data science. Participating universities include Volgograd State Medical University, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Kazan State Medical University, North Caucasus Federal University, Moscow Aviation Institute, and Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University.
Addressing the media, Valerii Khodzhaev, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, highlighted the longstanding academic ties between India and Russia. He noted that Russian universities have been admitting Indian students for over six decades and continue to align their programmes with Indian regulatory standards to ensure global recognition.
Alexander Dodonov, Vice Consul and Director of Russian House in Chennai, said over 200 Indian students are expected to benefit from fully funded Russian government scholarships this year, covering undergraduate to postgraduate studies.
Ravi Chandran, Managing Director of Study Abroad Educational Consultants, said Russia hosts more than 300,000 international students from 200 countries, including around 25,000 Indian medical students across 30 universities. He added that structured training support for foreign medical graduates has contributed to improving examination success rates.
Students interested in admissions for the 2026–27 academic session, beginning September 2026, can attend the fair with relevant academic documents or contact organisers at 9282 221 221 for further details.
