Chennai, March 2, 2026: Kauvery Group of Hospitals has launched dedicated GI Bleed Centres across all its hospitals in Tamil Nadu, expanding the initiative to its Karnataka units as well. With 12 centres operational across the two states, the move aims to provide timely evaluation, coordinated care, and comprehensive management of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding — a potentially life-threatening medical emergency involving internal bleeding within the digestive tract.

Each centre is equipped with 24/7 emergency endoscopy services and advanced therapeutic endoscopic techniques, including injection therapy, band ligation, glue therapy, and coil embolisation. Interventional radiology support for angiographic embolisation, along with surgical expertise for complex and refractory cases, is available whenever required.

Dr. P. Basumani, Director, Kauvery Institute of Digestive Sciences, said that GI bleeding can result from ulcers, gastric erosions, or variceal bleeds linked to liver disease, and stressed that early stabilisation and timely intervention are critical to survival. He noted that the centres have streamlined protocols to ensure seamless coordination between departments, enabling faster, patient-centred decision-making.

Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-Founder and Executive Director, highlighted that the initiative is designed to standardise emergency GI bleed management across all Kauvery units, ensuring consistent quality, safety, and outcomes regardless of location. He added that strengthening emergency and critical care services remains central to the group’s long-term healthcare vision.
