Gleneagles Hospital Chennai Launches ‘Sakhi’ Comprehensive Breast Care Clinic
Chennai, 25 February 2026: Gleneagles Hospital Chennai, a part of Fortis Healthcare, today inaugurated Sakhi, a Comprehensive Breast Care Clinic dedicated to delivering integrated breast health services — from screening and diagnosis to advanced treatment and reconstruction. The clinic was inaugurated by Chief Guest Nalini in the presence of senior hospital leadership and the multidisciplinary oncology team.
Sakhi has been conceptualised as a one-stop breast clinic addressing the full spectrum of breast health — including breast cancer, benign breast conditions, preventive care, screening and post-treatment rehabilitation. The centre integrates surgical oncology, radiation oncology, medical oncology and advanced diagnostics under a coordinated care pathway to enable faster decision-making and improved patient experience.

Equipped with advanced diagnostic capabilities such as 3D mammography, tomosynthesis and stereotactic biopsies, the clinic supports early detection and precise diagnosis. The streamlined care pathway enables select evaluations and reports within shorter timelines, where clinically appropriate. Breast conservation surgery, oncoplastic reconstruction and multidisciplinary treatment planning are central to Sakhi’s approach, ensuring personalised care while prioritising quality of life.
As part of the launch initiative, the hospital provided free mammogram screening for 10 underserved individuals. Additionally, patients can avail a 50% discount on mammograms and free consultations until March 31, 2026. Community breast screening programmes are also being conducted to promote awareness and early detection.
Dr. Balaji Ramani, Director, Gleneagles Institute of Oncology, said Sakhi enables patients to move seamlessly from screening and diagnosis to treatment planning, breast conservation surgery and reconstruction within a coordinated framework focused on precision and outcomes.
Highlighting the growing burden of breast cancer, Ms S Niranjani, Chief Operating Officer and Hospital Head, noted that one in 28 Indian women is at risk, with nearly 60 percent diagnosed at later stages, even though early detection can push survival rates beyond 90 percent.
Mr R Y Bharath Kanth Reddy, Chief Executive Officer, Chennai and Hyderabad Cluster, pointed out that India reports nearly 200,000 new breast cancer cases and about 100,000 related deaths annually, underscoring the need for specialised, integrated care centres.
Mr Anil Vinayak, Group COO, Fortis Healthcare, stated that Sakhi reflects the organisation’s commitment to combining advanced technology, multidisciplinary expertise and compassionate support to make timely, personalised breast care more accessible.
Dr. Sunitha Jayarani emphasised the clinic’s one-day, one-stop evaluation model, while Dr. N.S. Vimaladittan highlighted breast conservation techniques. Dr. Azmi Saundarya spoke about short-course, five-day radiation therapy protocols, and Dr. Arun Ramanan discussed AI-based prognostic molecular testing that enables chemotherapy-free treatment for select patients.
