Chennai, 3rd February 2026: Marking World Cancer Day, GEM Hospital today reaffirmed its commitment to advancing accessible and patient-centric cancer care with the launch of Dr. GEM, an innovative AI++ GEM Intelligence chatbot for cancer, and the inauguration of two new patient-focused initiatives—free cancer screening programmes for pensioners and a free second opinion consultation for all cancer patients throughout the month of February.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Prof. E. Hemanth Raj, Vice Chairman, Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, who emphasized the critical role of early detection in improving survival rates and quality of life. Highlighting current trends, he noted that nearly 100 people per 1 lakh are affected by various cancers in India, with 35–40% of cases linked to tobacco usage. He underlined that awareness, timely screening, and early intervention remain the most effective tools in combating the disease.

Rtn. Balakrishnan, President, Rotary Club of Madras Central, attended the programme as Guest of Honour, appreciating GEM Hospital’s integrated approach that brings together community outreach, advanced technology, and compassionate care to address the growing cancer burden.
