SIMS Hospitals Makes History with India’s First Keyhole Left Ventricle Tumour Removal
Chennai, December 10, 2025: SIMS Hospitals has successfully performed India’s first endoscopic removal of a left ventricular tumour, a rare keyhole cardiac surgery that avoids breastbone cutting. The minimally invasive procedure was done on a 45-year-old working woman diagnosed with a 1.6 × 1.5 cm mass inside the heart’s main pumping chamber.

Primary cardiac tumours make up just 0.6% of all cardiac surgeries, and left ventricular tumours are even rarer—seen in only 1 in 20–30 million people. Instead of the conventional sternotomy-based open-heart surgery, SIMS adopted an endoscopic approach using small rib-space incisions to access and remove the tumour.

Dr. Ravi Pachamuthu, Chairman, SIMS Hospitals, praised the team, highlighting the hospital’s advanced endoscopic capabilities and clinical excellence. Dr. Bashi noted that such minimally invasive removal of a left ventricular mass is exceptionally rare globally and a first for India. The patient recovered well and returned to normal activities within two weeks.
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim added that endoscopic cardiac surgery significantly reduces pain, hospital stay, blood loss, and visible scarring, while enabling greater precision. The team has already completed five such minimally invasive cardiac tumour cases with a 100% success rate and continues to apply these techniques across various cardiac conditions.
