Young Hands Unite for Energy Conservation at POWERGRID’s Painting Competition; Empowering the Next Generation Through Art
Chennai, November 21, 2025: As part of the national campaign on energy conservation, the Ministry of Power, in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and POWERGRID Corporation of India Ltd., organised a state-level painting competition for school students in Tamil Nadu. More than 40,000 students participated across the state, reflecting strong enthusiasm for spreading awareness on saving energy.
The valedictory event took place at the Anna University campus, Chennai, with Dr. P. Hariharan, Dean, College of Engineering, Guindy, as Chief Guest and Dr. R. Saravanan, Head of Mechanical Engineering, Anna University, as Guest of Honour. Welcoming the gathering, Mr. M. M. Jeyaseelan, Sr. DGM, POWERGRID and Nodal Officer for the competition, highlighted the importance of engaging young minds in energy conservation and reaffirmed POWERGRID’s commitment to supporting BEE’s mission.

Students competed in two categories—Cat-A (5th–7th) and Cat-B (8th–10th)—with schools submitting their best entries through the BEE online portal. The initiative aimed to build awareness on sustainable energy practices while nurturing artistic expression. From the initial entries, 50 top paintings from each category were shortlisted by expert jury members from the arts field.
This year’s themes were:
- “One Planet, One Chance – Save Energy”
- “Energy Conservation: My Responsibility, Our Future”
- During the ceremony, the Chief Guest presented cash prizes to the winners.

- A. Vishvadh, NPS International School, Chennai
- S. Shahasra, Senthil Public School, Salem
Winners – Category B:
- S. B. Gokula Krishnan, Velammal Matric Higher Secondary School, Chennai
- K. E. Sethuram, D.A.V. Boys Higher Secondary School, Mogappair, Chennai
- D. T. Abinesh, SBOA School & Montfort Matric Higher Secondary School, Chennai
The state-level winners will now represent Tamil Nadu at the National Painting Competition on 12 December 2025, continuing their role as young ambassadors for energy efficiency and conservation.
