In stroke management, “Time is Brain” — nearly 1,90,000 brain cells are lost every minute during an attack. The expanded network ensures uniform, high-quality care for both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes across Apollo’s hospitals in Chennai. This milestone builds on the 2023 launch of the Apollo Stroke Network, furthering early detection, timely intervention, and public awareness.

Globally, nearly 13 million people suffer strokes each year, with about 10,000 cases reported annually in Chennai alone. The initiative brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts in neurology and neurovascular care, including Dr. Srinivasan Paramasivam, Dr. Kannah, Dr. Vijay Shankar, Dr. Muthukani, Dr. Arulselvan, Dr. Satish Kumar, and Dr. Sreenivas UM, ensuring seamless, coordinated care.

Dr. Srinivasan Paramasivam, Head of Neuro Endovascular Surgery, said, “The Apollo Advanced Stroke Network provides an organized, time-efficient response system for stroke patients. Our focus is on advanced neuroendovascular treatments such as mechanical thrombectomy and microsurgical procedures to save lives and improve outcomes through faster intervention.”

Dr. Satish Kumar, Senior Consultant, Apollo Specialty Hospitals, OMR, added, “Stroke treatments are highly time-dependent. Awareness of symptoms — such as sudden weakness, facial drooping, or speech difficulty — and acting quickly can make all the difference. Every minute counts.”

Highlighting technology’s role, Dr. Sreenivas UM, Consultant Neurologist, noted, “AI-powered imaging is transforming stroke care, helping us diagnose and treat with unprecedented speed and precision.”

Dr. Ilankumaran Kaliamoorthy, CEO – Chennai Region, Apollo Hospitals, said, “This expansion reinforces Apollo’s commitment to saving lives by ensuring no stroke goes untreated due to delay or lack of access. Our stroke response model is built around the principle that every minute counts.”

With this expansion, Apollo Hospitals Chennai continues to lead in advanced neuroscience, emergency intervention, and community education, driving awareness, prevention, and rehabilitation for better stroke outcomes.
