Kauvery Hospital Vadapalani Launches A First-of-its-Kind Dedicated Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic

This new facility is already regarded as one of the leading dedicated PH care centers in India, equipped to manage the most complex cases of  Pulmonary hypertension and individuals requiring genetic evaluation, setting it apart from other centers across the country. Dr. Anbarasu Mohanraj, Clinical Lead & Senior Consultant-Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery at Kauvery Hospital Vadapalani, who spearheads the clinic said, “This clinic will provide treatments for complex pulmonary cases with collaborative care. For example conditions like Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH), a severe and rare form of Pulmonary Hypertension, which is caused by persistent blood clots that obstruct the pulmonary arteries, leading to elevated lung pressure and overburdening the heart will be treated at the clinic.”

Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy (PTE) a complex and highly specialized open-heart surgery, offers new possibilities for such patients. Despite its potential to cure, this surgery is available at only a handful of centers worldwide due to its complexity and the level of skill required. Recently three patients aged between 26 to 72 were treated at Kauvery Hospital Vadapalani in ten days, including a central government employee and an international official. The surgery requires cooling the patient’s body to 18°C and temporarily stopping blood circulation to safely remove clots from the pulmonary arteries.

With this clinic, Kauvery Hospital Vadapalani aims to bridge that gap by providing a structured, evidence-based and personalized care pathway for every patient, no matter their age or clinical background. The clinic offers a suite of advanced diagnostics and interventional services like Right heart catheterization, Advanced imaging (CT, MRI, lung perfusion scans) and Genetic screening to identify hereditary risk factors and support early intervention. With collaborative inputs from multiple specialties including Pulmonology, Rheumatology, Genetics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Neonatology, the clinic delivers truly comprehensive care under one roof.

Prof P Manokar, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, Clinical Lead – Heart Failure & Transplant Program said, "The strength of this clinic lies in its integration. Pulmonary Hypertension affects multiple organ systems, and our team approach makes sure that every aspect of a patient's health is considered. By uniting various specialties, we improve diagnostic accuracy and long-term outcomes.”

The launch event was graced by senior clinicians, hospital leadership. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Kauvery Group of Hospitals, said, "This Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic reflects our core philosophy at Kauvery  combining clinical excellence with compassionate, specialized care. We are proud to lead the way in such focused healthcare delivery, especially in conditions as critical and underserved as pulmonary hypertension.”

The clinic is now open for consultations and referrals at Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani. With its forward-thinking approach and strong clinical leadership, the clinic is poised to become a national referral center for pulmonary hypertension management.
