Chennai, April 12, 2025: In a powerful step towards enhancing public safety and creating awareness about the dangers of head injuries, the Tambaram Police Commissionerate, in association with Gleneagles Hospital Chennai organised a large-scale Helmet Awareness Rally on Saturday, April 12, 2025, under the resonant tagline “No Helmet, No Ride.”

"No Helmet, No Ride" – a 16 Kms Rally to Promote Helmet Use organised by Gleneagles Hospital & Tambram Police

The event, which began and ended at Indian Maritime university, saw over 1,000 bikers, Vintage Cars, 500 Cyclists rallying across a 16-kilometer stretch of ECR Road, riding up to Kovalam Junction and back. The campaign's aim was to highlight the lifesaving role helmets play in preventing head injuries during road accidents.

Flagging off the event was Mr. Abin Dinesh Modak, Commissioner of Police, Tambaram, who emphasized the larger goal of the rally: “We are committed to making our roads safer. Head injuries claim countless lives each year—many of which are avoidable. Wearing a helmet isn’t just about following the law; it’s about valuing life. This rally is a reminder to every rider: No Helmet, No Ride.”

Joining him as Guests of Honor were Mrs. C. Maheshwari, Additional Commissioner of Police (Tambaram), Mr. Samay Singh Meena, Deputy Commissioner – Traffic (Tambaram), and Dr. Nigil Peter Symms, Head of Neuro Surgery, Gleneagles Hospital.

As a healthcare partner in the initiative, Gleneagles Hospital brings critical insight into the consequences of neglecting helmet use. Dr. Nigil Peter Symms, speaking from his experience as a neurosurgeon, stressed: “I’ve witnessed the tragic consequences of head injuries. Helmets are the first and most crucial line of defense. We are proud to collaborate with the police in this mission to protect lives before they reach our emergency rooms.”

In addition to the bike rally, the campaign included the distribution of 1000 helmets over the next 10 days to motorcyclists found riding without one—serving as both a deterrent and a life-saving measure.
