SIMS Hospital Marks World Plastic Surgery Day with Focus on Skin Donation


Chennai, July 24th, 2024 :  SIMS Hospital observed World Plastic Surgery Day starting from July 15th  with a week-long series of events aimed at raising awareness about the field of plastic surgery and its role in patient care.

The annual observance typically includes free consultations and surgical procedures for patients, continuing medical education programs for physicians, and surgical workshops for junior plastic surgeons. Renowned plastic surgeon Prof. Dr. G. Karthikeyan delivered a guest lecture and was bestowed with a lifetime achievement award, and competitions such as quizzes, poster presentations, and short film contests are held for healthcare professionals.

This year, SIMS Hospital expanded its focus to include skin donation awareness. The hospital conducted a quiz competition for doctors and nurses, awarding prizes in three categories. A poster competition also took place, with three winners selected. 

Two short film competitions were held: one for SIMS Hospital staff (with ten teams participating and four prizes awarded) and another for plastic surgery postgraduates (with six teams and two prizes). ICAPS Team Dr. K Sridhar- Founder, Dr. R Krishnamoorthy – Director and the whole team promoted skin donation awareness.

The week culminated in a valedictory function presided over by Vice President Dr. Raju Sivasamy, Medical Superintendent Dr. Sangeetha, Chief Operating Officer Mr. Suraj, and other hospital staff were in attendance. Actor/ Director Ramesh kanna graced the Dr. R Krishnamoorthy – Director  and felicitated the winners.
