ICAI Southern Region Organises 14th V.Sankar Aiyar Memorial Lecture on Oct 22 from 5.30pm to 7.00pm

About the V. Sankar Aiyar Memorial Lecture:
During the year 2008 a Memorial Fund was instituted at SIRC in the name of late Shri V. Sankar Aiyar, Father of Shri Mani Sankar Aiyar, then Hon'ble Union Minister for Panchayat Raj and Development of the North Eastern Region for conducting Memorial Lecture. The Fund was created by Shri Mani Sankar Aiyar, the eldest son of Shri V. Sankar Aiyar, Chartered Accountant with SIRC.
The First Memorial Lecture was held on 9th May 2008 and was inaugurated by Shri Mani Sankar Aiyar. Since then every year the V. Sankar Aiyar Memorial Lecture is being held every year as a mark of respect and recognition to the services rendered to the profession by Shri V. The Memorial Lecture is being delivered by eminent personalities from different walks of life and attended by large gathering of Chartered Accountants. However due to pandemic situation this time this lecture is being organized through virtual mode. As the programme is to be held through virtual mode it is expected that the programme will be viewed by hundreds of Chartered Accountants and the Chartered Accountant Students as well as the family members and well-wishers of the family of Shri Mani Sankar Aiyar.
SIRC of ICAI has made elaborate arrangements for having this virtual programme and invited the members across the Southern Region through itself and through its branches and Programme Organizing Units. The members of the Chambers of Commerce have also been invited through the respective Chambers of Commerce,

About Shri V. Sankar Aiyar:
Shri V. Sankar Aiyar hailed from Karugudi, a Village in the Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. In the Pre-Independence period he was a Partner of Iyer & Co., in Lahore. Late Sankar Aiyar shifted to Delhi in the year 1946 and started his own practice as a proprietor of a CA Firm till 1952. After that he retired from profession and became highly religious. He entrusted the practice and the goodwill of the firm to three of his colleagues, who continued the practice in partnership and continued the profession.
He had a brilliant analytical mind, which could create a lasting impression in the mind of the clients and others by his professional competence and high degree of ethical conduct.
He was generous to the core to his colleagues, employees, and other whoever come into contact with him. He was the Founder of the First South Indian Temple - Ganeshji Mandir - in the heart of Delhi in the year 1952.
He died in harness at a young age of 46 on 12th May 1953 in an air accident near Delhi.
About the Speaker
Mr. N.K. Singh is a prominent Indian economist, academician, and policymaker. He Chaired the 15th Finance Commission and is currently the President of the Institute of Economic Growth. Prior to this position, he presided as Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Review Committee (FRBM). He also served as a member of the Upper House of the Parliament, the Rajya Sabha, from 2008 to 2014, during which time he contributed to several prominent Parliamentary Standing Committees including the Public Accounts Committee, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the Committee on Human Resource Development.
Mr. Singh had a long and distinguished career as a member of the Indian Administrative Services before his entry into politics and fiscal policy leadership. He served as Expenditure Secretary (1995-1996), Revenue Secretary (1996-1998) and Secretary to the Prime Minister of India (1998-2001), among other senior leadership roles. During his tenure as the Revenue Secretary, the far reaching tax reforms known as the Dream Budget was implemented. As Secretary to PM Vajpayee, the New Telecom Policy, 1999, which salvaged the telecom sector, as well as the National Highways Development Project and the first Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act were implemented.
