Wings to fly 2019 – 32 Corporation schools’ students to be sent to
Singapore for Educational tour
Chennai: The Wings To Fly is one of the
flagship projects of the Rotary Club of Madras East. Conducted jointly in
association with the Greater Chennai Corporation & the Foundation for
Vocational Training, 2019 marks the 4th successive year of the project.
The first two years took the format
of an elocution competition for the Corporation school students. The subsequent
years transitioned into a mega Science Talent Hunt that put not just the
academic skills but also their creative scientific temper to test. This year,
7000 students from across 70 corporation schools competed with each other over
a lateral thinking objective test, from which 280 top scoring students were
shortlisted for entry into the finals.
The finals were a combination of
Olympiad styled tests and project presentation by all the 280 finalists. About
70 project stalls with project across various themes were put up by the
students at Amma Arangam, transforming the hall into a mini-science center. The
project stalls were visited by more than 3000 fellow students from across
corporation schools. After a rigorous evaluation by a diverse team of Judges
from academics, industry & public jury, the top 32 students were adjudged
winners.
At this function, Rotary Club of
Madras East through Foundation for Vocational Training handed over the cheque
for Rs. Ten Lakhs to Dr.D.Karthikeyan I.A.S,Commissioner of Greater
Chennai Corporation, towards the NEET Training for two Residential Schools. It
is to be noted that Rs.10 Lakhs has already been donated for the same cause 4
months earlier. The total donation of Twenty Lakhs will benefit many students
of +2 appearing for NEET Examinations.
