October 29, 2026: Kauvery Hospital, Alwarpet, Chennai, has successfully treated severe aortic valve leakage in a 63-year-old man using the specialised HANCHOR valve through Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). This first-of-its-kind procedure addressed Pure Native Aortic Regurgitation caused by a perforated native aortic valve leaflet in a patient with a previous mitral valve replacement.
The HANCHOR valve features a dedicated nitinol anchoring mechanism designed to stabilise the replacement valve, overcoming challenges posed by limited calcium deposits. The minimally invasive procedure avoided conventional open-heart valve replacement surgery. Post-procedure assessment reported no residual leakage, valve narrowing or paravalvular leak, and no significant electrical conduction abnormalities. The patient was discharged after three days.
Dr. Rajaram Ananantharaman, Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, Kauvery Hospital, Alwarpet, highlighted the importance of specialised valve technology and individualised treatment planning in managing complex cardiac conditions.
Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-founder and Executive Director, Kauvery Group of Hospitals, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to clinical innovation, advanced treatment options and patient safety.
This milestone showcases progress in minimally invasive cardiac care for patients with challenging structural heart conditions.
