CHENNAI, September 9, 2026: Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road, Chennai, has successfully crossed the milestone of 2,000 robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgeries, including total and partial knee replacements and total hip replacement procedures, marking a significant achievement in technology-enabled joint replacement care and establishing Tamil Nadu’s largest orthopaedic robotic programme.
The programme combines Mako® SmartRobotics™ from Stryker, 3D CT-based imaging and detailed pre-operative planning to support patient-specific joint replacement procedures. The technology provides surgeons with detailed anatomical information to plan and execute procedures based on each patient’s individual anatomy and clinical requirements, while the operating surgeon retains complete clinical judgement and decision-making throughout the surgery.

Robotic assistance can support precision in bone preparation and implant positioning and may contribute to benefits such as improved alignment, faster recovery and long-term implant performance. The technology is particularly valuable in complex knee and hip replacement procedures, giving surgeons additional tools to assess anatomy and maintain consistency during surgery.
As part of the milestone celebration, senior orthopaedic robotic surgeons Dr Arun Kannan, Dr Kornad Kosygan, Dr Kunal Patel, Dr Navaladi Shankar, Dr Vijay Kishore Reddy and Dr Madhan Thiruvengada delivered keynote addresses on the evolution of robotic-assisted joint replacement and the growing role of advanced technology in personalised surgical care.
