SRM Easwari Engineering College Launches India’s First ABB Global Excellence Center for Robotics
Chennai, April 28, 2026: SRM Easwari Engineering College has inaugurated India’s first Global Excellence Center for Robotics, established in collaboration with Switzerland-based ABB Robotics, marking a major milestone in advanced engineering education and industry-academia partnership.
The state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind in India and only the third such centre globally set up by ABB Robotics. Designed as a hub for cutting-edge innovation, the centre houses AI-enabled robotic systems and intelligent automation labs, including 3D pin picking, palletising, spot and arc welding cells, service and maintenance units, and VR-based digital simulation environments.

The ABB Robotics–SRM Easwari Global Excellence Center integrates advanced domains such as autonomous mobile robots, generative AI, vision systems, IoT, PLC automation, digital twin technologies, and smart manufacturing solutions, offering students exposure to next-generation industrial technologies.
The center was launched by Mr. Subrata Karmakar, President, ABB Robotics, along with Mr. Adityaram, Founder Chairman & MD, Adityaram Group; Mr. Anbu Jayabalan, Chief Operating Officer, Adani Realty; Mr. Vishwanath Kamath, Managing Director, Fronius India; Mr. Bhaskar Kanchi, Head of Engineering, embedUR Systems; Mr. Ram Bhadouria, GM - Engg. & Prj. (South Asia), Unilever; Mr. Meenakshi Sundaram, Chief Technology Officer, Amalgamations Group; Mr. Vinod Krishnan, Chief Executive Officer & MD, TVS Next; Mr. Srivats Ram, Managing Director, Wheels India; and Ms. Sujatha Chakravarthy, Chief Executive Officer & MD, Dhvani Group of Companies, in the presence of Dr. R. Shivakumar, Chairman, and Smt. Geetha Shivakumar, Vice Chairperson, SRM Group of Institutions.
Envisioned as a multidisciplinary platform, the centre will enable students from mechanical, electronics, computer science and allied streams to gain hands-on experience in robotics and AI, develop industrial automation solutions, and nurture startup ideas. It is also expected to strengthen consultancy services and deepen industry collaborations, opening new avenues in research areas such as predictive maintenance, supply chain automation, embedded systems, and advanced robotics.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Shivakumar said the collaboration represents a pioneering model for high-impact partnerships in technical education in India. He noted that the centre brings advanced infrastructure previously accessible largely in Western countries and will encourage undergraduate students to engage in research early, fostering innovation, analytical thinking, and entrepreneurship.
Mr. Karmakar highlighted that robotics and automation are transforming the manufacturing sector, particularly in India where industrial growth is accelerating. He emphasised the importance of equipping engineering students with industry-relevant skills and said the centre would provide access to world-class technology for both students and industry stakeholders.
With over 1,000 students and more than 400 faculty members, SRM Easwari Engineering College offers a wide spectrum of undergraduate programmes across core and emerging disciplines, including Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Robotics, and Information Technology. Leveraging its strengths in AI-driven innovation, the institution has also been actively delivering automation consultancy solutions to manufacturing companies across India.
