The grand unveiling ceremony was attended by popular music director and actor G. V. Prakash Kumar, along with Arun K. Chittilappilly, Executive Chairman and Managing Director of Wonderla Holidays Ltd., Chief Operating Officer Dheeran Choudhary, and Chennai Park Head Vyshakh Ravindran.

Standing nearly 80 metres tall, the Skywheel is among the tallest Ferris wheel rides in India with air-conditioned cabins. The structure features a 50-metre support system carrying a 28-metre observation wheel. Designed as a slow-moving, family-friendly attraction, it houses 16 air-conditioned cabins, each accommodating up to six guests, allowing a total of 96 visitors per cycle.

Engineered in-house by Wonderla, with cabins imported from Italy, the ride operates at a controlled speed of less than one rotation per minute, ensuring a smooth and immersive experience. The attraction, constructed over 22 months, is designed to enhance visitor engagement while maintaining efficient guest flow within the park.

Key highlights of the Skywheel include its striking skyline presence, panoramic viewing experience, advanced safety features such as dual-lock mechanisms and PLC-controlled systems, and vibrant LED lighting that transforms it into a visual landmark after sunset.

Complementing the ride is the Sky View Diner, an air-conditioned elevated dining space located just below the wheel. Offering a multi-cuisine buffet priced at ₹699 per guest, the diner has a daily capacity of around 200 visitors and is accessible as a standalone experience through prior booking. Positioned as one of the first such concepts within an amusement park in India, it is expected to attract guests seeking a relaxed dining experience with scenic views, particularly during daytime and sunset hours.

Speaking at the launch, Arun K. Chittilappilly described the Skywheel as a “defining addition” that reflects the company’s focus on innovation, combining scale, comfort, and engineering precision while ensuring safety at every level. Dheeran Choudhary highlighted that the attraction strengthens both visitor experience and operational efficiency, while also opening up new revenue avenues through integrated offerings like the Sky View Diner.

With this addition, Wonderla Chennai continues to expand its portfolio, positioning itself as a comprehensive entertainment destination that blends thrill, comfort, and immersive experiences for visitors of all age groups. Advance bookings are available online, while tickets can also be purchased directly at the park.
