India Post Unveils Special ‘My Stamp’ Honouring Shri P. Obul Reddy’s Birth Centenary; Apollo Chairman Dr. Prathap C. Reddy Leads the Launch
Chennai, November 30, 2025: India Post released a customised commemorative My Stamp marking the birth centenary of Shri Pottipatti Obul Reddy (1925–2025), a revered industrialist, philanthropist, and patron of Indian classical arts. The stamp was unveiled at a special centenary event in Chennai by Major Manoj M., IPoS, Director of Postal Services, in the presence of Padma Vibhushan Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder & Chairman, Apollo Hospitals.

Shri Obul Reddy, a visionary entrepreneur, pioneered Indo-Japanese collaboration by partnering with Matsushita (Panasonic) in 1972 to establish Indo National Limited (Nippo Batteries). Under his leadership, Nippo became one of India’s most trusted dry-cell brands, known for innovations like Nippo Hyper and Nippo Special, and today produces nearly 800 million batteries annually.

Dr. Prathap C. Reddy paid rich tribute, calling him “a rare blend of industrial vision, human compassion, and cultural commitment,” recalling his foundational support to Apollo Hospitals and his enduring personal warmth and guidance.
Beyond industry, Shri Obul Reddy was known for his humility, integrity, and deep commitment to social causes, contributing significantly to education, healthcare, elder care, and community welfare. A devoted admirer of Saint Thyagaraja, he founded the Sri Thyagaraja Seva Samithi and was a steadfast patron of Carnatic music and its artistes.
The My Stamp release is part of the year-long centenary celebrations honouring his legacy across industry, social development, and the arts, with his family in attendance to commemorate a life of purpose and lasting impact.
