"Wild Tamil Nadu": A Landmark Documentary Celebrating the State’s Incredible Biodiversity

Chennai, 17th October 2025: Wild Tamil Nadu, a breathtaking new wildlife documentary directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Mr. Kalyan Varma, showcases the extraordinary ecological diversity of Tamil Nadu. Supported by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and produced by Sundram Fasteners Limited, the film is a visual celebration of the state’s rich natural heritage—where rainforests, coral reefs, and deserts converge to create one of the most unique ecological landscapes on Earth.

Shot over four years by a dedicated team of South Indian cameramen, the hour-long film explores the vibrant ecosystems of Tamil Nadu, featuring everything from majestic elephants and elusive leopards to rare species like the lion-tailed macaque, fireflies, and the Madras hedgehog. These stories—many captured on camera for the first time—reveal the deep interconnection between culture and wilderness in the region.

The film features an original score by three-time Grammy winner Mr. Ricky Kej, blending Carnatic music with orchestral arrangements, while Mr. Arvind Swamy lends his voice as the narrator, bringing the landscapes and stories to life.
