Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi Inaugurates Windergy India 2025; Urges Wind Industry to Raise Local Content to 85%

Chennai, 30th October 2025: Shri Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, called upon India’s wind energy industry to enhance local content in wind projects from 64% to 85%, aligning with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat in clean energy.

Addressing the 7th edition of Windergy India 2025 in Chennai, the Minister emphasized that higher domestic value addition will strengthen India’s clean energy supply chain amid global uncertainties. He also announced that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for ALMM (Wind) will be released shortly.

Shri Joshi highlighted that wind energy accounts for nearly one-fifth of India’s 257 GW renewable capacity and has played a pivotal role in promoting indigenization. “India can capture 10% of the global wind supply chain by 2030 and up to 20% by 2040,” he noted. With close to 54 GW of installed wind capacity, he said upcoming policies and initiatives will help domestic manufacturing drive the next 46 GW of capacity addition, with installations expected to exceed 6 GW this financial year alone.

Mr. Girish Tanti, Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), reaffirmed the industry’s commitment to advancing this Atmanirbhar mission. He stated that India already maintains around 64% local content with over 2,500 MSMEs contributing to a robust domestic supply chain, producing key components such as nacelles, blades, and towers. “With a focus on technology, scale, and innovation, India can achieve 85% localization and serve 10% of the global wind supply chain by 2030,” he said.

The event also featured Shri S.S. Sivasankar, Hon’ble Minister of Transport and Electricity, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Mr. Johann Saathoff, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany. The 7th edition of Windergy India 2025 brought together 350 exhibitors from over 20 countries and attracted more than 15,000 visitors.
