Chennai, 13th August, 2025: In a remarkable feat of medical expertise, specialists at Kauvery Hospital Alwarpet have performed a rare, life-altering craniosynostosis surgery on a five-year-old child suffering from a severe facial deformity. Craniosynostosis is a rare condition, seen in about 1 in every 2,000–2,500 live births. It occurs when one or more of the skull bones fuse too early after birth, restricting normal skull growth. This can cause abnormal head and facial shapes, increased pressure on the brain, and, in severe cases, developmental delays. Dr. Manikandhan, Senior Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon, Kauvery Hospital Alwarpet, said, “The Maxillofacial surgeon’s role is to correct deformities of the face, nose, and eye sockets that can cause severe disfigurement secondary to early fusion of skull sutures.
