Usha International nurtures talent at grassroot level: Sponsors ‘Mallakhamb’ in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, December 27, 2021:What happens when you have 200 kids gathered to show their athletic prowess on a pole, cane, or rope? You have a high-octane day witnessing the best of Mallakhamb, an ancient Indian sport. This is exactly what happened in Chennai today as Team Mallan Fitness emerged as the winning team after giving neck-to-neck competition to Traditional Sports of Tamizhansin the Usha International sponsored Mallakhamb competition that took place at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School Villupuram. 

This association underscores Usha International’s commitment to promote and nurture local sports at the grassroot level. Mallakhamb, a traditional sportwhich originated in the Indian subcontinent, involves a gymnast performing aerial yoga or gymnastic postures while in concert or stationery. Mallakhambcan be traced back to the twelfth century, but faded into obscurity with time, and was revived in the nineteenth century to enhance the fitness levels of the soldiers.
